Who can
participate in our research? Families of individuals with Noonan syndrome between the ages of 1-25 years can participate in one of our research studies. What does participation involve? Early Language Study: Parents of children with NS between the ages of 1-3 can participate in our Early Language Study. For this study, parents will be asked to fill out a set of questionnaires about their child's development. We will ask questions about the words your child knows, gestures your child makes, his or her social skills, etc. Completing the questionnaires takes about 45-60 min. Participants in this study receive $15 for their time and effort. The questionnaires can be completed through the mail. Language Development Study: Families of children with NS between the ages of 4-25 can participate in our Language Development study. Families enrolled in this study must participate at one of our Research Sites (see below). Children and young adults with Noonan syndrome will complete 1-2 sessions working with a developmental researcher (Rene Pierpont). Participants will be asked to do several activities such as solving problems, naming or pointing to pictures, repeating words or sentences, playing word games, and drawing pictures. Participants will also undergo a short hearing screening. The sessions last a total of 2-3 hours, depending on the age of the child. At the sessions, parents will also be asked to fill out a set of questionnaires that take about 35-50 min. to complete. Families in our Language Development Study receive a $50 honorarium and free parking at one of our research sites.
